A sweet, round Oolong, which reveals a complex aromatic range of gourmet, floral fragrances which are enhanced with toasted notes.
Ruby Oolong comes from Mae Salong, in northern Thailand in the mountains of the Golden Triangle. After poppy cultivation was eradicated in the 1980s, the Chinese community in Mae Salong began growing tea instead. Given that they imported tools and expertise from Taiwan along with the tea seedlings, it is no surprise that Mae Salong produces delicious Oolong that are not dissimilar to some Taiwanese Oolong.
This Oolong is the work of a brilliant producer, Ms Ming, who made it using the Si Ji Chun cultivar. Grown on the famous mountain of Doi Mae Salong, at an altitude of 1,250 metres, the plantation benefits from ideal weather and soil for growing Oolong. With the huge differences between daytime and night-time temperatures, the tea plants grow more slowly and develop more aromas and sweetness, while the heavy clouds and mist covering the mountain meanthe leaves absorb more humidity.
