Originally inspired by Chinese and Korean techniques, Japanese
craftspeople have become masters in the art of ceramic in their own
right, enhancing it in many ways. Crackle glaze, stoneware,
porcelain and pâte de verre have evolved from a rich, living
creative heritage, mainly concentrated in the region of Arita,
south of Kyoto.
